Morton (Helen) is born.

1898

The great granddaughter of Massachusetts Gov. Marcus Morton, Helen Morton grows up in in Newton, attends the Winsor School, and graduates from Vassar College and the School of Social work at Simmons College. She moves to Boston in 1923 to become a social worker at the South End House, living initially in the women’s residence there, then moving to 83 West Brookline Street. A neighborhood activist for almost 60 years, Morton becomes a member of the Emergency Tenants Council, Peoples Elected Urban Renewal Committee, South End Planning Council, and other groups. She retires in 1980, moves to Concord, and dies there on March 30, 1991.
