Monet in the 20th Century is held at the Museum of Fine Arts.
1998
The show attracts a record audience of more than 565,000. Afterwards, Walter Robinson of the Boston Globe writes a story revealing that one of the paintings, Water-Lilies, 1904, was stolen from its rightful owner, a man who had had fled France during World War II. The painting is returned to the owner’s family and the museum subsequently releases a list of eight of its paintings whose ownership during the war is not clear.
