Michelle Wu is inaugurated mayor of Boston.

November 16, 2021

Wu is sworn into office in the Boston City Council Chambers in City Hall. The ceremony is held just two weeks after the election, allowing Wu to assume the office from acting mayor Kim Janey. Wu is the first mayor not born in Boston in over a century, the sixth Asian-American woman to lead one of the 100 largest U.S. cities, and, at 36, the youngest current mayor in America’s 25 largest cities.
