Mel King announces his candidacy for mayor .

The community activist, former state representative, and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology makes the official announcement of his second run for mayor at a press conference at the Parker House. He first ran for mayor in 1979. King’s campaign calls itself a “Rainbow Coalition,” a term later adopted by presidential candidate Rev. Jesse Jackson.
