Medeiros (Humberto S.) is born in the Azores.

Humberto Medeiros moves to Fall River in 1931, graduates from Catholic University, is ordained a priest in 1946, and serves in parishes in Fall River, New Bedford, and Somerset, and is named bishop of Brownsville, Texas in 1966 Medeiros is installed as archbishop of Boston in 1970 and elevated to cardinal in 1973. During his tenure, he is faced with challenges involving finances, a shortage of priests, and public school desegregation. Medeiros dies at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton September 17, 1983, and is buried at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
