McKay (Donald) House is built.
1844
[1845] Designed in the Greek Revival style and built by the shipyard owner as home, it is located at 78 – 80 White Street. The house sits on Eagle Hill and overlooks Boston Harbor. Visitors include Admiral David Farragut, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Daniel Webster. McKay and his family live here until 1869 [1877]. The building is added to and renovated over the years, and purchased by the East Boston Museum and Historical Society in 2022.
