Marx (Walter H.) is born in Holyoke.

(The son of German immigrants Walter and Ellie Marx, Walter Marx moves with his family to Boston, grows up on Castleton Street, attends the Mary Curley School, and graduates from Roxbury Latin School and Harvard College. He studies in Europe on a Fulbright scholarship, then returns to Boston to teach classics at various private schools. A founder of the Jamaica Plain Historical Society and champion of local history, Marx dies in 1995. Local historian Richard Heath later writes, “He was the soul of Jamaica Plain, the keeper of its treasures, the protector of its heritage.”
