Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King live at 396 Northampton Street.

1953

After being married in Marion, Alabama, on June 18, 1953, they return to Boston and live in Apt. 5 of the Lincoln Apartments while King finishes work on his doctorate degree, then move to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1954. The building is demolished in the 1960s and is now the site of the William E. Carter Development Center. A plaque to the King’s is dedicated on June 22, 2023.
