Malcolm Nichols is elected mayor of Boston.

Nichols (R), with 64,492 votes, defeats Theodore Glynn (D), with 42,687, John O’Neil, with 31,888, Daniel Coakley, with 20,144, and others. A resident of 796 Centre Street, he is second Republican mayor of Boston and last Republican elected mayor to date. As mayor, he presides over a public sector and private sector building boom, but despite having been regional head of the Internal Revenue Service, his administration e is criticized for allowing corruption.
