Malcolm Nichols becomes the first mayor to be inaugurated in Symphony Hall.

January 4, 1926

According to the Boston Globe, the building’s “classic atmosphere distinguished the event.” It would be the site of the next 10 inaugurals. In his address, Nichols calls for raising the tax rate to hire more police and increase pay for laborers and says that “Bostonians wherever they live should get behind Boston.”
