Lyceum Hall is dedicated.
February 27, 1840
Designed in the Greek Revival style, it is located on Parish Street on Meeting House Hill. Horace Mann serves as speaker at the opening of the hall, which is used by the adjacent First Church in Dorchester, for numerous municipal and social events, and abolitionist meetings. It is converted to a school in 1892.* The building is demolished in 1955.
