Lt. Edward Walsh Jr., 43, and firefighter Michael Kennedy are killed in the line of duty.

Walsh, a Hyde Park resident and father of three, and Kennedy, are fkilled fighting a fire at 298 Beacon Street. They had been among the first firefighters on the scene of the blaze, which was started by sparks created by welders working on an adjacent building.
