Lowell (Amy) is born in Brookline.

February 9, 1874

The daughter of Augustus and Katherine (Bigelow) Lawrence, Amy Lowell grows up at 171 Commonwealth Avenue, attends private schools, begins her career as a poet in approximately 1910, and meets her longtime companion, actress Ada Dwyer Russell, in 1912.* A colorful figure with a fondness for cigars, Lowell publishes a number of books and promotes Modernist poetry throughout the U.S. in Europe. She dies in Brookline on May 12, 1925, and her ashes are buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
