Louise Day Hicks announces her candidacy for mayor.
May 1, 1967
At a press conference in the Oval Room at the Sheraton Plaza Hotel, Hicks declares, “my chapeau is in the ring.” She promises a “Boston for Bostonians” and to fight for the “forgotten man – the middle class who are paying everything and getting nothing.” then, with a band playing her theme song, “Every Little Breeze Seems to Whisper Louise,” she uses an oversized key to slice into a 475-pound cake baked in the shape of the new City Hall and declares, “City Hall belongs to all of us. Let’s eat it up.”
