Loring (Joshua) is born in Boston.
August 3, 1716
The son of Joshua and Hannah (Jackson) Loring, Joshua Loring worked initially in the trade, and marries Mary Curtis in 1740. He becomes a privateer and ship captain, is captured by the French, released in a prisoner exchange, and becomes an officer in the Royal Navy. He becomes owner of the former 60-acre Polly Farm in the middle of today’s Jamaica Plain in 1752, and builds a mansion house at today’s 12 South Street in 1760.* Loring is driven from his home into Boston in 1774, and flees with other Loyalist on March 17, 1776. He dies in Berkshire, England, on September 18, 1789.
