Williams had previously worked at stations in Little Rock, Denver and San Francisco. The first African-American news anchor on Boston television, she writes in her journal at the time, “Welcome to Boston . . . one of the most conservative, structured, status-conscious, ethnic, racist cities in America . . . and for some strange reason deep down inside, I’m excited about being here.” Walker soon becomes weeknight news co-anchor for nearly 15 years, leaving television in 2005 to attend theological school, and is installed as pastor of the Roxbury Presbyterian Church on March 1, 2014.
