Lindemann (Erich) Mental Health Center is dedicated.

September 19, 1971

Architect: Paul Rudolph. Originally the State Service Center, it is designed in the Brutalist style and located at 25 Staniford Street. It is subsequently named for the former chief of psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and champion of community mental health programs. A planned 23-story tower in the central plaza of the sprawling building s never built. New York Times architectural critic Ada Louise Huxtable later calls it, “[A] brilliant tour de force . . . [whose] drama may have been a little overwrought for its purpose.”
