Lee (Henry Jr.) is born in Boston.

1836

The son of Henry and Elizabeth (Cabot) Lee, Henry Lee Jr. is born in a house on Essex Street, graduates from Harvard College, joins his father’s firm, and serves as supercargo on a ship that sails to Rio de Janeiro. He marries Elizabeth Cabot in 1845, and later writes, “[The Lowells, the Higginsons and the Jacksons] came up from Newburyport to Boston, social and kindly people inclined to make acquaintances and mingle with the world pleasantly. But they got some Cabot wives who shut them up.” He joins Lee, Higginson in 1853, establishes the firm’s “safety vaults” at 40 State Street, and becomes wealthy by investing in real estate. Lee dies in Brookline on November 24, 1898.
