Lawrence (Abbott) House is built.

1809

Originally the Thomas Amory House and designed in the Federal style, it is located at 8 Park Street. Subsequent occupants include Dr. John Jeffries, William Payne, John Gore and Jonathan Amory Jr., who lives here from 1811 until 1828. Purchased by Abbott Lawrence in 1836, the building is renovated in the Greek Revival style by Gridley J.F. Bryant in 1838. It is leased to the Union Club in 1863, and renovated by Bryant and Sturgis. The building is purchased by the club in 1868 and a fifth floor is added by Peabody and Stearns in the 1880s.
