King (Melvin H.) South End Academy is built.

Originally the Charles E. Mackey School, after a Boston School Committee member, it is located on the former site of the combined Boston Latin / English High School at 90 Warren Avenue. It becomes the William McKinely School in 1978, and is one of four McKinley Schools renamed for the South End community activist on April 25, 2023.
