Kevin White is elected mayor of Boston.

November 7, 1967

White (D), with 102,706 votes, defeats Louise Day Hicks (D), with 90,154. Voter turnout is 68.2%. A few days before the election, the Boston Globe had broken a 71-year policy of not endorsing candidates by announcing its support for White, who is subsequently dubbed “Mayor Deluxe” by Boston Herald columnist Peter Lucas for the lavish style in which he presides over what he touts as “world-class” city.
