Kenmore Square Theatre is built.

1939

(ca.) Operated by Louis Richmond, the first-run art house is located at 777 Beacon Street. Richmond later encourages his friend Mickey Redstone to go into the business of building drive-in theatres. Redstone does and forms Redstone Theatres, which is now known as Showcase Cinemas. The theater it is torn down to make way for the Massachusetts Turnpike extension in the early 1960s.
