Julius Boros wins the U.S. Open Golf tournament in Brookline.

Boros wins an 18-hole playoff with Jackie Cupit and Arnold Palmer at The Country Club. The tournament is held 50 years after Francis Ouimet’s historic playoff victory in the same tournament on the same course. Local golfer Paul Harney missed qualifying for the playoff by one shot.
