Joseph Dudley is appointed president of the new Dominion of New England.

The son of the former governor, Dudley is appointed to the temporary position by James II. He subsequently informs Colonists that, “You must not expect that the rights of Englishmen follow you to the ends of the earth. You have no rights but not to be sold as slaves.”
