Jordan Hall opens.

October 20, 1903

Architect: Wheelwright & Haven. Acoustics are designed by Wallace Clement Sabine. A gift from Eben Jordan Jr. to the New England Conservatory of Music, it is located at 30 Gainsborough Street. The concert hall seats 1,013 and opens with a performance of George Whitefield Chadwick’s Melpomene by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Jazz performers include Stan Getz, Benny Goodman, and Fred Hersch. The hall is renovated by Ann Beha Associates, with Kierkegaard & Associates responsible for the acoustics, in 1995.
