John Coltrane Memorial Festival is first held.

Organized by Northeastern University professor Leonard Brown, it is the oldest the oldest annual tribute to Coltrane in the world. The concert in memory of the great jazz saxophonist who died in 1967 is subsequently hosted at Northeastern University.
