John Collins is reelected mayor of Boston.

Collins (D), with 108,624 votes, defeats City Councilor Gabriel Piemonte (D), with 73,067. Collins wins in 19 of the city’s 22 wards. Turnout is 186,401 or 60.3%. Inaugurated in Symphony Hall on January 6, 1964, Collins criticizes Gov. Peabody in his address for “grossly inadequate” state support “not only to Boston, but to all cities and towns in the Commonwealth.”
