The talk show host is attacked is attacked by Republican state committeeman Jack Molesworth just after midnight in the station’s studio on Brookline Avenue. After a Democratic state representatives and Williams guest criticized Republican Gov. John Volpe, Molesworth drove to the studio, made his way to a microphone in front of the live audience, and engaged in a five-minute scuffle with Williams, during which the listening audience hears a crash followed by five minutes of silence. Williams then resumes the broadcast and Molesworth drives himself to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment for his injuries.
