James Michael Curley is again elected mayor of Boston.

Curley (D), with 117,084 votes, defeats Frederick Mansfield, with 96,626, and Dan Coakley, with 2,800, to win the office for the third time. Turnout is 218,361 or 78.2%. Curley’s campaign slogan had been “work and wages,” while Mansfield called for “real municipal economy through wise expenditure.” Curley is inaugurated on January 6, 1930 at Symphony Hall. In his ninety minute address, he repeats his campaign proposal for a Fifty Year Plan to develop Boston’s industry, commerce, and public works.
