James Michael Curley funeral is held.

November 15, 1958

The largest funeral event in city history, it is held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, which is surrounded by a crowd of some one million people. Curley had died at Boston City Hospital three days earlier, and some 100,000 people attended his wake at the Massachusetts State House. Curley’s son, Francis, a Jesuit priest, celebrates the Mass and Cardinal Richard Cushing presides over the service, but does not deliver a eulogy. Curley is then buried in Old Calvary Cemetery in Jamaica Plain
