Jackson (Ellen Swepson) is born in Boston

October 29, 1935

The daughter of David and Marguerite (Booker) Swepson, Ellen Jackson graduates from Girls Latin School, Boston State College, and subsequently receives a master’s degree from Harvard University. She marries Hugo Jackson in 1954, and becomes involved in efforts to improve the Boston public schools. With Betty Johnson, she founds Operation Exodus in 1965,* serves as its executive director (1965-1969). and subsequently works for Freedom House, the Massachusetts Department of Education, and as a dean at Northeastern University (1978-1997). She dies on November 20, 2005, and is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery.
