House of Industry (fourth) is built.

Also known as the Boston Almshouse, it is located north of Broadway and east of L Street. Built “for the unfortunate poor,” the almshouse is replaced by a new facility on Deer Island in 1851 and the House of Industry relocates there in 1854.*
