Hotel Lenox opens.

Architect: Arthur Bowditch. It is located at 710 Boylston Street. Built by the owner of New York’s Waldorf Astoria, it named for a noblewoman who spurned the attentions of George III. Guests include Red Auerbach (in Room 300), Enrico Caruso (who used to back up his private railroad car to the hotel and take 35 rooms), Tony Curtis, Duke Ellington, Judy Garland (who stayed for three months in 1965), and Gov. and Sen. David I Walsh.
