Haystack parking service attempts to operate in Boston.

July 17, 2014

Founded by Eric Meyer in Boston, the company’s mobile application (“app”) enables users to locate and pay $3 for soon-to-be vacated public parking spaces. Drivers leaving the spaces collect $2.25, and Haystack collects 75 cents for each transaction. A bonus “make me move” option enables drivers leaving spaces to charge a fee of from $5 to $15 for making it available. However, the Boston City Council votes to prohibit the sale, lease, or reservation of public ways on August 20, 2014, effectively banning the company from operating in the city.
