Handel and Hayden Society first performs at Symphony Hall.

October 21, 1900

[1901] H&H, Emil Mollenhauer conducting, performs Mendelssohn’s Elijah. The next day’s review, the Boston Traveler declares, “never in the memory of the present generation has any oratorio chorus made so splendid an impression as last night’s. There can be no doubt that part of this fine state of affairs was due to the improved acoustics in the new hall, helped by the melodious thunders of an adequate organ.”
