Hampshire House opens.
1941
Formerly the Bayard Thayer House, the hotel is located at 84 Beacon Street. Joseph Kennedy is a guest during his son’s U.S. Senate campaign in 1952. The building is purchased by Thomas Kershaw and Jack Veasy in 1969. Kershaw subsequently lives on the upper floors, the first and second floors are converted into a restaurant, and the basement is converted to bar that becomes the model for a pub in a popular television series Cheers, which first airs in 1982.*
