Grew (Henry S.) House is built.
1847
(ca.) It is located near today’s West Street. It is built for the wealthy dry goods importer after he visits the area and reports to being “very much pleased with the view of the Blue Hills and the valley in between.” The house sits on an 800-acre estate, on which Grew encourages people to stroll. Much of the land is later used for the Stony Brook Reservation and George Wright Golf Course.
