Greene (Gardiner) House is built.

1758

Originally the William Vassall House, the white brick mansion is located in Pemberton Square near today’s 1 Center Plaza. It is purchased by Patrick Jeffrey in 1790, by Jonathan Mason in 1802, and by Greene in 1803. The richest man in Boston, Greene lives here until his death in 1832. Patrick Tracey Jackson then purchases the building and demolishes it to make way for development in 1835.*
