Green Peace is built.

1845

Built for Samuel Gridley Howe and Julia Ward Howe, who previously lived in an apartment on the grounds of the Perkins School, it is located near today’s 3 Story Street. One of its prominent decorations is Lord Byron’s war helmet, which Howe obtained in Greece in 1823. The home subsequently becomes a stop on the Underground Railroad. The Howes live here until 1863.
