Greater religious freedom is sought.

General Court receives a petition from a group made up of Robert Child and others. It asks that “the civil liberty and freedom might forthwith be granted to all English; and that all members of the Church of England or Scotland, not scandalous, might be admitted to the privileges of the churches of New England.” The petition is denied and the petitioners are fined and their papers seized.
