Good Will Hunting opens in Boston.

Directed by Gus Van Zant and written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, the drama stars Damon, Affleck, and Robin Williams and concerns a young, working-class math whiz. Filmed primarily in Toronto, scenes are also shot in the Back Bay, Downtown, and South Boston, as well as Cambridge. Affleck and Damon subsequently receive Oscars for best screenplay, and Robin Williams for best supporting actor. Will’s run-down first-floor apartment at 190 West Sixth Street is subsequently converted to a condominium and goes on sale for $729,000 in 2017.
