Girls High School (second) opens.
September 30, 1870
(Sept.) It is located at today’s 85 West Newton Street. Dedicated on April 19, 1871, the limestone building is the largest school building in New England and is soon shared with Girls Latin School. The school closes in 1954. The building is demolished in 1960 and becomes a playground in 1962.*
