Geraldine Hines is appointed to Supreme Judicial Court.

The first African-American woman appointed the Supreme Judicial Court, she was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, she graduated from Tougaloo College and the University of Wisconsin Law School. A Roxbury resident, Hines was a staff attorney at the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute and a was a member of the first all-women, African-American law firm, Burnham, Hines & Dilday. She was appointed a judge on the Massachusetts Superior Court in 2001 and on the Appeals Court in 2013.
