General Court limits the wages in certain trades.

September 2, 1630

(OS 8/23) The court limits wages to two shillings a day for “carpenters, joiners, bricklayers, sawers and thatchers.” When wages for carpenters are subsequently raised to three shillings a day, Gov. John Winthrop complains that it will allow them to earn a week’s pay in four days and may tempt them to “vain and idle waste of precious time.”
