Gallery is established.
1952
Operated by Leon Brathwaite, a Cambridge native, graduate of the Vesper George School of Art, and World War II veteran, it is located initially on Huntington Avenue. The Gallery, also a frame shop, shows the work of emerging local minority artists, including Ronald Bouttee, Calvin Burnett, Arnold Hurley, and Milton Johnson. It moves to 225 Newbury Street where it is renamed Huntington Frame Company, then to Columbus Avenue. It closes in 1985, after which Brathwaite works out of his home until his death in 2005.
