Full face transplant is first performed in Boston.

(March) The first full face transplant in the U.S., the operation is performed during a 15-hour operation by Dr. Bodham Pomahac and others at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The patient, Dallas Wiens of Fort Worth, Texas, had been disfigured in a workplace accident. The success of the procedure is publicly announced at the hospital on May 9, 2011.
