Frog Pond is created.
1788
[1894-PV] Formerly a swampy area and described initially as a small mud hole, the pond is curbed in 1826 and paved in 1848. In 1872, Oliver Wendell Holmes advises, “Cherish it, inhabitants of the two-hilled city, once three-hilled: ye who have said to the mountain, ‘Remove hence,’ and turned the sea into dry land! For art thou not the Palladium of our Troy?” The pond serves as a swimming hole and skating rink, becomes a pray pool in the 1970s, and is renovated as a skating rink and reopens in 1997.*
