Roosevelt (D) defeats Thomas Dewey (R) to win an unprecedented fourth consecutive term as president. In Boston, Roosevelt receives 208,062 votes and Dewey 125,998. Roosevelt dies of a cerebral hemorrhage in Warm Springs, Georgia, on April 12, 1945, and is succeeded by vice president Harry S Truman.
