Forest Hills Station (first) opens.

November 11, 1909

[11/22-JPHS] Architect: Edmund March Wheelwright. Designed in the Classical Revival style with copper canopies, it is located near today’s 3700 Washington Street. Ground was broken for the extension from Dudley Square on March 16, 1908. Reputed to be the largest and most costly subway station in the U.S. at the time, it is replaced by a new station (second) in 1987.*
