Engine Company No. 38-39 Firehouse opens.

May 18, 1891

Architect: Harrison Atwood. Designed in the Romanesque Revival style, it is located at 344 Congress Street. The red brick and granite building houses the only double-engine fire company in the city, so that one engine can always remain on site to protect the many wool houses in the area. It closes on April 22, 1977, and reopens as a museum in 1987.*
